Where will the next global fortunes be made? Is it in energy and commodities? The world economy comprises of about 6 billion people, 1 billion television sets, 600 million cars, 480 million mobiles and 350 million computers, but it has a finite resource of oil and gas which many scientists believe are close to their half way points and, consequently, to scarcity pricing. The balance in the global economy is changing as China and India emerge as major economies. Small wonder then that the appetite for raw materials like oil, gas, and metals has been growing ravenously and large resources are being invested in alternative energies. While the area is notoriously volatile the long-term trend looks sharply upwards but how can you make money out of it?
Super investors will take direct positions in traditional energy stocks or ETF's covering oil and gas while also punting on renewable energies and technologies but what if you're not a skilled market reader? Never mind because here are my picks of three different funds that will help you take positions in the sector.
These can be regarded as volatile funds exposing you to large swings in values in both directions and suitable only as long term investments. These are available on discounted terms relative to normal retail pricing (especially if you go directly) but only after proceeding through a formal advisory process with Eddie (FDM ltd) in compliance with regulatory rules governing advice. Costs prevent both firms from dealing on discounted terms for fund investments of less than EURO 50,000.
